Sanna Kekäläinen's new work is a cross-section to the concept and manifestations of Shame. Why do we experience shame?
Shame is the opposite of human autonomy; it is an archaic, primal feeling. For this reason Shame has been an effective tool for power throughout the history: it has been used to oppress women and other minorities. HÄPEÄ - SHAME takes a strong stand on our thoroughly capitalistic society – it is up-to-date social critique at its sharpest. The work is the first part of the SHAME Project, which started in the fall of 2009 and includes two large scale works and demonstrations of the working process.
In the ensemble with Sanna Kekäläinen are Lilja Lehmuskallio, Laura Norppa and Panu Varstala. The lighting design in K&C Space is by Heikki Paasonen, a long time collaborator of K&C.
