Atelieri O. Haapala is a art project by photographers Saara Salmi (b. 1981) and Marco Melander (b. 1968), in which the history of photography and thematic dressing meet. Starting in autumn 2008, Salmi and Melander have toured together, taking cabinet portraits in the style of the late 19th century. All of Atelieri’s more than 700 photographs are on display in the exhibition.
Among other things, Salmi and Melander’s role figures, Onyxei and Helmut, are enthusiastic exponents of polar-bear and dodo hunting, spiritist séances, bordellos (especially Helmut), looking at stereo pictures (Onyxei’s favourite pastime), airships, freak circuses, hot-air ballooning, decadent poetry, moving pictures, and, of course, photography.
Event days: Atelieri O. Haapala photographs at the museum at 2-4pm on 7.2 and 21.3. Free entry. The exhibition is accompanied by workshops for schoolchildren.
