Cable Factory's graffiti gallery
An open portfolio call was held in spring 2026 to find the artist for the first work in the Cable Factory’s graffiti gallery. The artist duo Alias & Niles was selected to create the inaugural work. The Helsinki-based graffiti artists have been painting together for 15 years.
The duo’s idea was to create a work for Cable Factory themed around deconstructing the anatomy of graffiti lettering; a work that progresses as a timeline from the readable to the abstract. The aim is to show visitors, one element at a time, what the term graffiti encompasses, without losing its connection to its original essence.
The gallery, dedicated entirely to graffiti art, has been established as a permanent part of Cable Factory. Its aim is to provide a professional exhibition platform for graffiti artists and to increase the appreciation of graffiti art in Finland. At the same time, it offers Cable Factory visitors an art space that is always open and regularly renewed.
True to graffiti culture, the artists have remained anonymous to Cable Factory, and nothing is permanent: a new open call is organised every year, and the next artist paints a new work over the previous one.
