Lux Helsinki 2025 at the Cable Factory
Lux Helsinki will once again showcase the diverse forms of light art in January 2025! This year’s festival theme is “Stories from Beyond.”
At Cable Factory, you can explore exhibitions related to Lux, best experienced by following the route: Glass Courtyard - Turbiinisali - C Lobby - MUU Helsinki Contemporary Art Centre - Puristamo - Valssaamo.
In the Glass Courtyard, in front of Staircase E, is Ilkka Paloniemi's AC AIR neon sign. The animated neon sign draws inspiration from americana, echoing the iconic aesthetics of vintage motel and roadhouse advertising signs. With its nostalgic design, it captures a dialogue between a yearning for the past and the harsh realities of the present climate change.
Stéphane Marin's (FR) OLYMPhonIC will be on display at Turbiinisali. The multichannel sound installation that engages with and spatializes the dynamics inherent in sports, within a subtle dramaturgy infused with palpable tensions and relaxations. Composed solely from original sound recordings captured amidst various Olympic and Paralympic sports, “OLYMPhonIC” offers an immersive experience.
Michal Czinege (SK) – Garden of Death (at 17–22)
The installation is painted with ash from dead trees that heated a house over one winter. The site-specific installation borrows visual elements from herbaria of extinct plants in the Finnish region of North Karelia. The fifth Lux In light art exhibition brings a diverse range of light art to the Cable Factory cultural centre on a gallery scale. The exhibition is presented in co-operation with the Lighting Design Master’s Degree Programme of the Uniarts Helsinki.
