Perception and Reality / Thar Be Dragons

This workshop is for dance professionals and those studying the profession.

“Perception and Reality” is an explorative movement-based workshop led by Thar Be Dragons’ artistic directors, Ryan Mason and Annamari Keskinen. This immersive journey delves into the intricate connections between memory, personal perception, and our shared reality.

Guided through verbal cues, participants will navigate various modes of creativity, using images, soundscapes, music, texts, voices, and movement as tools of exploration and self-expression. This approach highlights the fluid give and take between our inner landscapes and the outer world, challenging the boundaries of physical and abstract.

During “Perception and Reality”, get ready to take part in explorative exercises — physical assignments, vocal experiments, and engaging discussions — all designed to provoke curiosity, promote autonomy, and foster the integration of individuality within a collective. It’s a unique playground for self-discovery, where every action contributes to a dialogue with the world.

The aspiration with this workshop is to offer a thought-provoking, multi-sensory experience that challenges traditional perceptions. The dancers are invited to explore their assumptions about reality and consciousness and how that relates to their individual practice. Here, contrasting ideas coexist, and each participant plays an active role in shaping their own unique journey, opening a realm of new insights into our interactions with the world around us.
