The colorful contemporary ballet Whirls is about dancing in the spirals of human greed, the richness of life and the search for happiness.
Alpo Aaltokoski has created a contemporary choreography for twelve dancers to the classical music piece by Uuno Klami and Kalevi Aho Whirls that tells the story of the forging of the mythical Sampo. Whirls contains both mythology from Finland’s national epic poem Kalevala and contemporary questions about people’s search for happiness and a better life.
Whirls is Uuno Klami's three-act ballet composition, which the composer left unfinished after his death in 1961. Composer Kalevi Aho finally completed the work, and the internationally valued dance artist Alpo Aaltokoski has created a wonderful contemporary dance choreography in 2011. Bringing Whirls to the stage has been praised as a cultural-historical act. Now the work will be seen again as part of the opening year program of Dance House Finland. Performance is suitable for families and children of different ages!
