Yu-Hsuan Yao’s first solo exhibition in Helsinki features two multichannel video installations that delve into the intricate relationship between modern medicine and personal growth, traditional Chinese culture, and 21st-century feminism.

In the realm of moving images, the viewing duration of a piece is like a canvas for the artist to stretch, while the decision to stay until the full loop rests with the spectators. Exploring the complex interplay between content and context in art, the two installations by Yu-Hsuan Yao illuminate how diverse approaches and viewers’ backgrounds mould the aesthetic experience.

The artwork titled Fluoxetine, referring to a widely prescribed antidepressant, visually portrays the artist's journey towards recovery and a pursuit of inner harmony. A Woman Without Talent is a True Virtue, the second installation, sheds light on the daily struggles and injustices faced by Asian women.

The exhibition invites visitors to engage by casting their votes and making choices guided solely by personal inclinations.
